How It Feels To Have Mr. Ibu as a Father – Jasmine Okafor Reveals

To many Nigerians all over the world, Mr. Ibu is one of the funniest Nigerian comics we had growing up. That character was (and is still) so iconic. He brought so many laughs to so many people, and for many, they always fantasized about what it would be like if such a funny man actually raised them and was their father.

Well, for Jasmine Okafor who is now following her father’s footsteps and also getting into acting, she did not have to fantasize about it. John Okafor, the actor behind the famous character of Mr. Ibu is Jasmine’s father, and together they both appeared in a recent Broda Shaggi skit. During a new interview with The Punch, Jasmine opened up about how it is having Mr. Ibu as a father, and how it was working with him on the skit with Broda Shaggi. Here’s what she said about both things.

Speaking about how it is having Mr. Ibu as a father, Jasmine Okafor said:

Given the fact that he is more experienced than I am and he is someone that is really open minded, I don’t think there is a limit to the discussions I have with him. He listens more and won’t hold back any information he thinks will be useful to one. I would rather confide in him than any other person. I don’t think there is any limit to the kind of conversations I can have with him. Because he is open-minded and more experienced, it makes it easy for me to open up to him at any given time.

Together, both father and daughter have acted in skits together, the most recent one being the skit in which both of them starred alongside funny skitmaker, Broda Shaggi. Speaking about acting alongside her father on that Broda Shaggi skit, Jasmine Okafor said:

The skit Bro Shaggi featured me and my dad in was not my first. I actually did a skit with Zicsaloma before the one with Shaggi. Being on set with Broda Shaggi was fun. He is easygoing. He made acting really easy for me. When I was going to shoot the skit, I did not know what to expect. He (Broda Shaggi) was excited about the shoot and the excitement was contagious, so I just keyed into it. Shooting with him was fun and amazing. When my dad (Mr Ibu) met Shaggi, they ‘clicked’ immediately. I believe my dad had fun on the set because he talked about it the entire week.

It’s really good to see Jasmine following in her father’s footsteps. What’s also very beautiful to see is the relationship father and daughter share. This video below of the two of them dancing together is by far one of the most wholesome things you will see this week. Let me know what you think about what Jasmine said, and also let me know what you think about Mr. Ibu and his daughter’s beautiful relationship by leaving a comment either below or on my Jide Okonjo Facebook post.
